Mister Ozzy the Dog - Waiting for Autumn routine
Dear friends,
I haven’t written in a while, I know. Besides, as I always
check where I left off with my story and how many lines I’ve written, I
couldn’t help but notice something very strange. I saw that someone had been
messing with my diary, and I could never have imagined that NeMacka would do
such a thing. Still, I forgave her because it’s okay for her to tell her side
of the story. She could have at least gotten her own diary, though, instead of
messing around in mine.
Anyway, if something like that pops up in my diary next
time, I’ll have to change my tactics. Anyhow, September is finally here—as my
mom Leah would say. We’re all looking forward to autumn, and me most of all
because of the slightly cooler temperatures. Yet, it seems that kind of weather
just won’t arrive. It’s over 30 degrees Celsius all day long, and it’s way too
hot for me to even budge from the apartment.
Because of that, Mom gets up every morning at 4:30 AM, gets
ready, and then puts my harness and leash on so we can go for a walk. At that
hour, when we step out into the street, it’s really fresh and cool, and I enjoy
it so much. Oh, how I love those early walks when there’s nobody on the street,
when it’s still almost night, and the sky is black and full of tiny stars. The
streetlights are softly dimmed, just enough to illuminate our path.
That’s how it was this morning. It was magical. We walked
from 4:30 to 5:20 AM. Then Mom brought me back to the apartment and left me
inside softly, without a sound, so as not to wake NeMacka—who I know for sure
wasn’t actually sleeping, but watching me from her secret hiding spot—and Dad,
who doesn’t get up before 5:30 AM.
Where did Mom go? I didn’t know right away.
When she came back, she slid into the big bed, and of
course, I joined her. In the morning, we all attack Dad with kisses because
otherwise, he wouldn't even get out of bed. And instead of thanking me at least
once for my French kisses, he complains about me drooling all over him. He
really doesn't know how to appreciate morning devotion. Anyway, that's when I
heard Mom tell him she had gone for a run outside after walking me.
I never run unless I have the zoomies. That’s my 5 minutes
when I bark loudly, spin in circles, and sprint across the whole apartment as
fast as my legs can carry me until I collapse on my side, tired and panting. I
tried to picture Mom doing the same thing, but somehow that just doesn’t fit
her personality.
When Dad got up and ready for work, I was really in the mood
to play. Mom went back to take a little nap in the big bed, and the cat was
hidden as always and not interesting at all. I had to pester Dad. He played
with me for a bit and then left for work. I loitered around and did everything
I could to wake Mom up so she wouldn't forget that my breakfast is at 7:00 AM.
And so, once I devoured my food, it was time for me—the
mighty bulldog—to go for my nap and forget about the whole world. That’s how
you conserve energy, my dear friends. I'm just waiting for Mom to finish her
daily chores and tasks so I can cuddle with her a bit too.
That’s all from me this time. I’ll try to write a bit more
from now on, unless the cat messes with me again. Be good. Sending you French
kisses,
Yours, Ozzy!
